Why learn basic facts?
Knowing basic facts improves students’ ability to learn higher level mathematics by allowing the working memory of their brains to focus on one task instead of many. For example, it is easier to learn how to simplify fractions when you know that half of 8 is 4 or that 12 is divisible by 3. However, simply knowing facts does not mean that a student will be successful in mathematics.
