Matariki is the Maori new year, usually late June where 7 stars are visible in the night skies. Room 2 has been reading Maori Myths about the 7 sisters of Matariki. Here is some of our winter, Matariki art.
We were very fortunate to spend a day at the Paparoa Marae in Te Puna. The day was spent learning about the history of the marae, making and dancing with Poi and Taiaha.
It was an invaluable experience to extend our learning in the classroom to see and feel it in real llfe at the Marae.
What a beautiful culture we have in New Zealand!
