Sea Week!

2/28/2017

Week 5 is national Sea Week! We have been learning all about sea life and sustainable fishing.

What does sustainable mean? "To keep things the same" answered Jackson.

What are some examples we have discussed about sustainable fishing?
- "Tag and release of fish" replied Billy
- "Catching fishing and putting them back if they are too small" piped up Sitevah
- "Don't go fishing if you don't need to" explained Lillia
- "Only take what you need" added Daniel

Today we also had an opportunity to look inside a fish! Ms Withrington was sure to wear gloves! Some of us found it a bit smelly, but now we all know what a snapper's liver looks like!

Mystical Waterfall. By Daniel

Crunch, crunch, crackle, crunch! Parched, crisp leaves lay lifelessly on the steep woodland floor. The indistinct sound of wilted beige and sepia coloured twigs snapped like a rat trap under my burly leather hiking boots.

As I drew closer I began to hear the faint rush of the gelid water plummet down the sheer cliff like a motorbike speeding down the highway. Over time, the water coarsened the surrounding rock, forming mysterious caverns and dips. Every step I took just led me to more excitement. Then I saw it. I saw a sight of a lifetime…

As the water hammered the ground below, mystical mist rose up as if a magical spell had brought it alive. It gyrated in twirls like the smoke of a candle just blown out.  The crumbling sheet of water blanketed the soaked rock and immersed the bushes down underneath.

Surrounding the waterfall were stupendous lush trees. The waterfall was wedged in a valley between two prodigious ledges overflowing with green growth. The sight was a magical wonderland.

Art Inspirations - Vincent Van Gogh

We love getting creative in Room 1. This week we have been learning about Vincent van Gogh. Did you know his art only became famous after he died? Or that he once cut off his own ear?

Here is a picture of us being inspired by his piece 'Starry Night'. We used pastel and black paper to add effect and contrast. We also gave it our own twist by changing the landscape.
