Cool Bananas: No Room at the INNPERIAL
On Thursday 15th November the annual Cool Banana’s Christmas Show, “No Room at the INNPERIAL” took place at the Community Hall. It was a great show full of music, drama, dance humour and lots of fun. Many of our students had opportunity to perform on stage alongside the organisers and they rose to the occasion and made themselves and their school proud. The show was entertaining and had a great message for families and children to remember over the Christmas season.

Students from around the Bay of Plenty united on Wednesday 14th November to learn about water quality and how they can contribute to protecting the region’s waterways. Nine students from Whakamarama School attended the 2018 Hands on Water Expo at Redwood Valley Farm in Te Puke. The students experienced a range of water quality and water conservation activities, and gained skills they can use in their community. Our students had a fantastic attitude, got stuck in and enjoyed the day.
Show Day 2018
What a wonderful day our Show Day was on Saturday 27th October. We could not have asked for better weather. It was heartwarming to see so many people here at school enjoying the day with us. It is always a great community day that is an integral part of our special character here at Whakamarama School. A huge thank went out to everyone who contributed to the success of our day - students, parents, staff, whanau, Board of Trustees, judges and our community. Their attendance, support and generosity were key factors in what makes days like these happen; and what an awesome day we had!

Friday 29th June was a fun filled evening as our first school disco of the year took place at the Whakamarama Community Hall. The disco was well organised by a team of parents and students had heaps of fun. We were also very lucky to have our home grown DJ, Jackson Hiku, playing and making the disco such a hit. Thank you to all our parents for supporting this venture.
Fresh Moves
On Wednesday 13th June our students excitedly and proudly appeared on stage at the Baycourt Community and Arts Centre for the “FreshMoves 2018” dance festival; a celebration of creative dance in Bay of Plenty primary and intermediate schools. This non-competitive festival provided Room 1 & 2 students the opportunity to experience the processes involved with creating and performing dance for a community audience. Our students displayed the values of unity (kotahitanga), perseverance (hiringa) and confidence (māia) as the prepared a dance themed ‘Because’ and then performed in front of an audience of 500.
Thank you to parents, caregivers and whanau that supported, encouraged and attended this event. Miss Johnstone and Mrs Buchanan, your dedication, enthusiasm and energy ensured our students experienced success on this evening - our children believed that they could succeed; and they did!
